CAT CUNNINGHAM
Hi, I'm Cat, and I have been working in the fitness industry in Boston since 2016. I currently work with a small group of clients for virtual and in-person strength training. I lead virtual group fitness classes focused on strength and ability for all levels. In 2024, I started a social run club, "brunch club" centered around building community through exercise.
I am now in my final year of grad school at Boston University pursuing my Master's of Social Work. My foundational clinical placement was in the Cambridge Public School System working on social-emotional learning skills with children. My advanced clinical placement was in medical social work focusing on maternal and child health at Mount Auburn Hospital. After graduation, I plan to work part-time in clinical social work and advance my skills for work with both individuals and families.
In my spare time, I enjoy running, biking, skiing, traveling, and trying new coffee spots. I also love spending time at home with my husband and our cat, Scout. My life does not revolve around my personal fitness, but rather I choose to integrate healthy habits into my lifestyle wherever I can. I have found that this is relatable to the clients that I work with everyday.
I think that my clients would say that I am compassionate, attentive, and enthusiastic, giving them a safe space to be vulnerable and to push themselves just a little bit outside of their comfort zones, because that is where real change can happen. My clinical social work training has only helped to make my coaching skills stronger and more centered on collaboration.
In 2016, I graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor's in Psychology and minors in Nutrition and Communicative Sciences and Disorders. As a four-year member of the Track and Field team, and a lifelong runner, I am so happy to continue to run for fun (and some competition) in Boston.
I started my personal training career in 2016 at Equinox Sports Club Boston, where I had the opportunity to work with hundreds of clients. In July of 2019 I was a launching part of the coaching program at the club where I was able to offer habit-change, nutrition, and regeneration coaching to my clients.
I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and an AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor with certifications in Prenatal and Postpartum, Precision Nutrition L2, Kettlebell L1, and ViPR. I am currently pursuing an ISSA Run Coach certification to learn more about the sport I love!
